Parent’s Sharing Session Part 2 : How to help children do self-study homework at home?

On 9/15,  TMIS invited 3 mothers of second-grade and third-grade children to share their children’s self-study homework experience.

“Each child has different personalities and characteristics, so the way to guide them is different.”

Parents specifically share five ways to assist their children:
1. Family harmony: the husband and wife have the same attitude towards self-study homework, so the children will not be confused.
2. Maintain enthusiasm: guide children to find the fun of self-study homework and enjoy the process.
3. Observe from the side: give different guidance and dialogues according to the characteristics of each child.
4. Leading thinking: guide children to find the key points by asking questions, and practice expressing them concretely.
5. Timely intervention: sometimes intervene, sometimes not intervene, as long as the parents are willing to let go, the child is willing to find a solution.

“Through dialogue with TMIS teachers, we can briefly understand the purpose of self-study assignments.”

1. The self-study homework is “learn how to learn, how to choose, how to arrange”.
2. Self-study homework is “continuing the atmosphere and habits of working at school after returning home”.
3. The self-study homework is “Develop reading habits and practice expressing your ideas in Chinese and English”.
Note common to all teachers: the teacher does not care most about word count, stroke order, handwriting…
